The Importance of pH Control in Sculpture Conservation

I’ve been working on a few marble sculptures recently and have noticed how crucial it’s to monitor the pH levels of the cleaning solutions. Even a slight deviation can affect the integrity of the stone. I’d love to hear what methods others are using to ensure they maintain the right balance in their conservation practices.

, the pH control is such a headache sometimes! I usually stick to using pH test strips for my cleaning solutions. They’re pretty affordable and give a quick read, but I’ve found that sometimes the lower-end strips aren’t super accurate.

I’ve also noticed how critical pH is for marble… I use a digital pH meter for accuracy — it saved a few of my sculptures from damage! Anyone tried a specific brand? :magnifying_glass_tilted_left:.

I once used pH test strips, but a digital meter changed my life. They give such precise readings — like having a safety net for my sculptures. Anyone ever consider adding buffering agents to their solutions for extra reliability?
